Real Alternative Independent Truthful News | (Bailout Main Street Now) Moscow airport blast that killed 35 people may have involved a female suicide bomber. Russia's state-run RIA Novosti news agency quoted a security source as saying a woman may have been a bomber in the blast.
It follows reports from witnesses who said a bomber shouted "I will kill you all", before triggering the deadly blast that killed at least 35 people at a busy Russian airport.
It's believed the deadly device was hidden in a bag or suitcase and packed with metal objects to maximise the damage it inflicted.
At least 35 people are dead and up to 168 people injured, many of them critically. Relatives waiting to meet family members and arriving passengers were killed instantly.
Witnesses said the bomber shouted: "I will kill you all", before triggering the blast that sent ball bearings and shrapnel across the airport, The Independent reported today.
Police officials told the RIA Novosti news agency that the bomb had the power of five kilos of TNT.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has vowed to hunt down and punish those behind the terrorist attack.
Mr Medvedev ordered increased security across Russia's capital, its airports and other transport hubs, as invetigators revealed that the attack in the busy arrivals hall of Domodedovo airport was a suicide bomber.
"Burned people are running about ... they are carrying pieces of flesh on stretchers," a shaken eyewitness named Andrei said.
"Something terrible is happening there. Tens of people are being dragged out on stretchers, on trolleys."
Witness Artyom Zhilenkov, 30, told The Guardian newspaper: "There was a massive boom and then a wave of heat and pressure that swept along the floor, bent my legs and flung me aside.
"I was looking toward a dark-skinned man when it happened. I think it was the suitcase standing next to him that exploded."
Aussie survivor tells of 'large bang'
An Australian man identified as Ben said he was just about to enter the arrivals hall when the explosion occurred.
"We heard the explosion first and heard a very, very large bang," he told ABC Radio.
"We thought it might be a construction accident but couldn't figure out what that might be, and we saw clouds of dust coming out from that area.
"The blast was loud enough and strong enough that it shook the walls around us."
News reports in Russia suggested the atrocity was the work of two, or more likely one, suicide bomber. The Interfax news agency said that a severed head found at the bomb site was believed to be that of a bomber.
"We found the head of a man of Arab appearance, aged 30 to 35. It seems he detonated the explosive device," a law enforcement source told the agency.
Russia Today Live has said three men are being hunted by Russian authorities, who immediately opened a criminal probe into the carnage, describing it as an "act of terror". According to Fox News Channel, investigators have not ruled the possibility that the bombing was not a suicide attack after all, and that the perpetrator either left the luggage in arrivals before slipping away or was accidentally killed.
Warnings
Russian security services had received warnings that an attack was planned at a Moscow airport, reports have said. "The special services had received information that an act of terror would be carried out at one of the Moscow airports," a security source told the RIA Novosti news agency.
"Agents were seeking three suspects but they managed to access the territory of the airport, witness the explosion which their accomplice carried out and then leave the airport," the source said.
"A tip-off with a warning that something was being prepared appeared one week before the explosion," an airport security source told the Lifenews.ru website. "Even the place, by the customs, was named."
The blast took place in the international arrivals hall where passengers are met, just after the Customs control. An airport spokeswoman confirmed it was a free access zone that does not require a boarding pass or a special badge to enter.
